If you want to explore this beautiful country in the best way possible, we have curated a list of the absolute best areas to visit. Whether you are looking for world-class surfing, hidden lagoons, or ethical wildlife encounters, here is where you need to drop your bags.

🗺️ Quick Destination Cheat Sheet
Before diving into the details, here is a quick overview of what each island is best known for:
| Destination | Best Known For | Vibe |
| Coron | Limestone cliffs & shipwrecks | Adventurous & Scenic |
| Bohol | Chocolate Hills & Tarsiers | Nature & Exploration |
| Cebu | Waterfalls & Diving | Action-Packed |
| Siargao | World-class surfing | Laid-back & Trendy |
| Boracay | White sand & Nightlife | Vibrant & Social |
| Palawan | Crystal clear lagoons | Tropical Paradise |
🛶 Best Areas in Coron
Banol Beach (also known as Banul Beach) is a breathtaking sight with its powdery white sand, turquoise waters, and towering walls of jagged limestone cliffs. Aside from swimming, you can rent a kayak or rest in one of the beach’s traditional nipa huts.
-
Travel Tip: Bring your camera—this is one of Coron’s most photogenic attractions! The ideal months to visit are January through mid-June and October through December, when the waters are calmest for boat tours. Expect to spend full, sun-soaked days island hopping on traditional bangka boats.
🐒 Bohol Top Locations
Bohol offers a perfect mix of lush jungles and unique geology.
-
Rent a small, private boat (and skipper) to cruise up the serene Loboc River.
-
Spend time marveling at the famous Chocolate Hills, fascinating geological formations created from ancient coral reefs millions of years ago.
-
Visit Hinagdanan Cave for a subterranean swim, and rent a boat to Balicasag Island to spot wild sea turtles and magnificent coral reefs.
🤿 Where to Go in Cebu (And a Note on Ethics)
Cebu, with its lush jungle resorts and premier diving locations, is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. If you are a water baby, this is one of the best islands in the archipelago.
An Important Note on Whale Sharks: In Cebu (specifically Oslob), you have the opportunity to snorkel with Whale Sharks. However, we urge you to be highly mindful of the tour company you choose. In some areas, these gentle giants are illegally fed by operators to keep them around for tourists. This disrupts their natural migration and reproduction cycles, which threatens the species’ long-term survival. Always opt for ethical, WWF-approved eco-tourism encounters where the animals are not fed or touched!
🏄♂️ Siargao Island Special Spots
Siargao is the surfing capital of the Philippines, boasting some of the best wave breaks in the world (like the famous Cloud 9). But if you’re not a surfer, don’t worry! The island offers an abundance of pristine white sand beaches, hidden rock pools, and coral flats to explore. Plus, Siargao’s fresh seafood scene is world-class.
🌴 Where to Plan for in Boracay
Boracay is a small island, but it is legendary for its powder-soft sand and vibrant nightlife.
-
A quick historical fact-check: You might occasionally hear that the government closed the island to tourists for rehabilitation in 2021, but that famous six-month environmental cleanup actually took place in 2018! Today, strict sustainability rules remain in place to protect the island, a move we fully support.
-
Must-See Spot: Stop by Puka Beach. Named after the crushed “puka” shells mixed into the sand, this 800-meter stretch of beach is free of the massive resorts and clubs found at White Beach, offering a much more peaceful vibe.

🏝️ The Wonders of Palawan
The Paradise of Port Barton
Port Barton is a peaceful coastal town near San Vicente, incredibly popular with backpackers looking for a quiet, rural setting. From here, you can journey to Long Beach in San Vicente, which is widely claimed to be the longest white sand beach in the Philippines.
Famous El Nido Hotspots
If you came to the Philippines specifically for those viral, postcard-perfect island views, El Nido will not let you down. Imagine deserted beaches, secret emerald lagoons, and towering forest-covered limestone mountains rising out of pristine tropical seas. The views here easily rival Thailand’s Phi Phi Islands and Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay.
-
Getting There: Most travelers take a 1.5-hour flight from Manila to Puerto Princesa Airport (PPS), followed by a scenic 5 to 6-hour shuttle ride up to El Nido town.
A Private Island Camp Experience
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning our exclusive One Life Adventures Islander Experience!
With us, you will spend two days experiencing the local way of life on our very own private island near Port Barton. You will snorkel over vibrant reefs, shower in rainforest waterfalls, and gather around a beach bonfire for a feast of freshly grilled fish, pork, and tropical fruit prepared by our local guides. To top it off, you will sleep in tents directly on the beach under a sea of stars.
